34. Little Wart Snake
It can be found from India through Southeast Asia to the Solomon Islands as the Little Wart Snake, Little File Snake, or Marine File Snake. Almost helpless on land, it is entirely aquatic. Currently, no subspecies are recognized.
In addition, they have specialized tubercles with nerve endings on their skin between their scales, which provides an additional sensory organ that allows them to feel water movements of their prey.
In addition to having laterally compressed tails, Acrochordus granulatus can flatten dorsoventrally to assist in swimming. However, they are still susceptible to dehydration at sea and rely on freshwater lenses that form on marine water’s surface.
This behavior has been observed in members of the true sea snake subfamily Hydrophiinae. Males and females of Acrochordus granulatus are sexually divergent, with females slightly larger than males.
