21. Formosa Odd-Scaled Snake
Another species of snake with rainbow iridescence. Taiwan and the southern islands of Japan are home to the Formosa odd-scaled snake.
Snakes have small heads and black, beadlike eyes. Adults are most often olive, grayish tan, or black in color.
Young Formosa odd-scaled snakes are usually black in color. A snake with odd-shaped scales – of which there are 23 recognized species – is so named because its scales don’t overlap and lay flat.
