23. Spider-Tailed Horned Viper
In 2006, academic literature described it for the first time. The spider-tailed horned viper (Pseudocerastes urarachnoides) is the only snake that has evolved a hunting technique as efficient as this one.
This species of snake is found exclusively in western Iran, and it has a spider-tailed tail. Due to the fact that it was featured in an episode of the BBC show Seven Worlds, One Planet, it has since become somewhat famous.
Spider-tailed horned vipers are named after their tail, which resembles a spider. Due to its mottled brown scales, the snake is also very well-camouflaged.
The spider-tailed horned viper waves its tail to attract insect-eating birds. The viper attacks and devours the bird as soon as it gets close enough.
