9. San Francisco Garter Snake

This non-venomous snake is a small, multicolored subspecies of the common garter snake.

With its striking pattern of red, blue, and black stripes, it stands out from other species. It was one of the first to be listed as endangered after the Endangered Species Act was passed.

Despite its non-venomous nature, it will consume its victims whole. This snake is one of the few creatures that can consume the poisonous California newt.

Approximately 1000 to 2000 snakes are estimated to be in this species’ adult population, according to researchers.

Their many different colors make them very attractive to the eye and make them appear quite charming. They are not serious threats to people, since they are just mildly venomous.
