15. The Banded Krait

Several species of elapid snakes are found on the Indian Subcontinent, in Southeast Asia, and in southern China. Herpetologists say the banded krait is the most poisonous snake in India, several times more venomous than a cobra.

The snakes feed primarily on snakes, but they also eat frogs, lizards, and small mammals.

In spite of the fact that the banded krait is venomous and its bite may be fatal to humans, it is shy, nocturnal, and not particularly aggressive, so the risk of humans being harmed is low.

From forests to agricultural lands, banded kraits live in a variety of habitats. Termite mounds and rodent holes near water provide them with food and shelter, and they often live near human settlements, especially villages.

Their preferred habitat is the open plains of the countryside. Up to an altitude of 5000 feet, the banded krait can be found in Myanmar.
