30. Malagasy Leaf-Nosed Snakes
Madagascar is its only home, where it can be found in deciduous dry forests and rain forests, often in vegetation 1.5 to 2 meters above the ground.
Approximately one meter is the maximum length of a Malagasy leaf-nosed snake. The females have flattened, leaf-shaped snouts with an appendage that is both camouflage and dorsally brown, while the males have a long tapering snout with a brown dorsum.
In most cases, it sits and waits for prey to come to it. Resting straight from a branch, it may display curious resting behavior. Arboreal and terrestrial lizards are among the prey items.
Additionally, it exhibits hooding when stalking prey. Together with its cryptic colour patterns, these hooding and swaying behaviors might mimic the motion of a vine swaying.
There are usually five to eleven eggs in a clutch of leaf-nosed snakes. Unless provoked, Madagascar leaf-nosed snakes tend to be calm and reluctant to bite. Humans who are envenomated by the snake suffer severe pain, but they are not killed by it.
