16. Corn Snake
The snake kills small prey by constriction. It is a North American species. Southeastern and central United States are home to corn snakes.
Many people keep them as pets. Corn snakes are often killed because they resemble the venomous copperhead snake.
Alongside the ball python and garter snake, they are some of the most common snakes kept as pets. A corn snake lacks venom and helps control populations of wild rodent pests that damage crops and spread disease.
Snakes brumate during the winter in colder regions. However, along the coast where the climate is more temperate, they shelter in rock crevices and logs during cold weather.
They can also find shelter in small, closed spaces, such as under houses, and come out on warm days to soak up the sun’s rays. Snakes hunt less during cold weather because they are less active.
