Essay On Freedom Fighter Subhash Chandra Bose

By:-Deepa Bhambhani

They gave their voice
To the speechless
They were the light
For the darkness in the world
These brave fighters
Bled in red
Sacrificed themselves
To just give us bread-butter and bed ?!!!

A freedom fighter!! 3 small words with a beautiful and very deep meaning. We all have read about them – Mahatma Gandhi, Subhash Chandra Bose, Jawaharlal Nehru and all…

We do know about their struggles, but, could we feel it? Can we just feel the pain they have gone through?

Well, we can’t! Just imagine how much fearless courage it needs to bring freedom to those they might not have met in their lives!

Yes, they faced exploitation and immense torture, but, they didn’t hold back, they continuously fought against the injustice, and that’s why we consider them “The Epitome of Patriotic People.”

India was also under British rule for over 200 years, and it’s not like we got justice in just a few minutes…

It was something that included “True Spirit”!! These Freedom Fighters who surrendered their bodies, minds, and money are now deeply buried in the sands of selfishness and greediness.

Their ideas of equality are now somewhere lost in the sea of black money and corruption. But some people are on the path of truthfulness and honesty and have not forgotten the principles of these great reformers!!

The young generation is now profoundly inspired by the heroic acts of a famous and remarkable Indian reformist who said – “Give me Blood, I Shall Give you Freedom”…. Yes !! Its Subhash Chandra Bose.

He is popularly known as the ‘Netaji’ of India. A great Militant and Diplomat! A brave soldier and Patriot of Patriots !!!

Let me tell you about my own incident where I learned about this great Indian Nationalist… 14th June 2019, Monday.

Locked in the old library with my friends, I searched for a way to get out. It was a rainy day, and my friends and I were locked in as a punishment to clean up the old library.

The stinky library looked like a scary place full of cobwebs and dust. Old books were lined up on several shelves. At last, we understood that there was no way for us to get out of here.

So, unfortunately, we decided to complete our work for us to get out of here. We divided our work, and I was given to clean up the third shelf from the entrance.

Time passed, and we were tired, so we thought of taking a break. The weather outside was still as clamps and damp as before.

I was going to the big round study table when a book from the second shelf fell onto my head. It was painful !!

I looked down and saw a dusty book that somehow attracted me like a magnet. I didn’t know why…?? but …. It gave me a positive vibe.

“An Indian Pilgrim: An Unfinished Autobiography” written by Subash Chandra Bose – it stated.

I was trying to open the book when a call came, and I rushed toward the giant study table in the center with the shabby book in my hands.

Although I am not keen to read about our history, especially that of having many dates and events, I wanted to read that book, so I started flipping the pages.

While I was facing difficulty flipping those wrinkled yellow pages, my friends were having fun talking around and exploring the library.

So, with a great sigh, I started reading the book’s introduction page – “This book traces the life of ‘Netaji’….

I was confused while reading it as I didn’t understand why it was named an “Unfinished Autobiography”??!!

And so, I was curious to read the book. Once the flow of reading the book began, I got so engrossed and was mesmerized by the autobiography; that time flew by, and I sat there reading the book.

It didn’t stop here, as the book had such an impact on my mind, body, and soul that even its characters chapter-wise appeared in my dreams.

I still remember how the book described – “the formation of Azad Hind Fauj and his role in the non-co-operation movement.

The emergence of the Indian National Army (INA) and the weapons are given to women to fight for their country !!” He was the one to be with extraordinary leadership qualities.

Umm, Well let’s jump to the top – 23rd January 1897, Cuttack, Orissa, a hero was born. He was the light for the people living in their world’s darker sides.

Subhash Chandra Bose was the ninth child and sixth son in their family. As the story continues, he talks about his interests in politics since childhood; for this, at a very early age, he dedicated himself purely to the country’s affairs and its wellness.

When Gandhi Ji followed moderate policies to achieve Indian independence, Subhash Chandra Bose craved a military approach and social policies to achieve the same goal.

He was a contemporary of Gandhi Ji and actively participated in the ongoing freedom struggle movement.

Several times he was arrested and released for violent acts, but he continued to be on his fanatic approach.

Not only did Subhash Chandra Bose suffer in human trials by the British officials, but he was also taken aback by his health issues.

He was tested for tuberculosis (TB), which at that time was considered fatal. So, he had to leave his journey in India for some time and continue his revolutionary perspective from the European Jail.

Such was the determination of a young freedom fighter who knew no boundaries of curtailment.

However hard he was punished by the English laws; he bounced back with his Independent attitude.

With the help of the Japanese Army, Subhash Chandra Bose wanted to liberate India, so the Azad Hind Fauj entered through Bhutan into Nagaland.

They fought bravely but were defeated and forced to retreat, which also marked the end of the fortunes of Subhash Chandra Bose.

Nevertheless, for the first time in history, the Indian Army as a unit was able to maintain it’s clear identity. This went ahead to mark one of the bravest armed forces in the world.

Then came the tragic end of Subhash Chandra Bose in a plane crash in Taiwan, Japan, on 18th August 1945.

This was an unfortunate end of an incredible personality who influenced us to fight for the right, and suddenly I was awake from my dreams and found myself sleeping on the table with that old, toned book.

Well, basically, this story made me understand that we cannot achieve something just by sitting and doing nothing.

Instead, we have to fight for that. Subhash Chandra Bose was an actual warrior and significant Indian Nationalist.

His dialogue, “Freedom is not given, it’s taken” is genuinely applicable in today’s world.

After reading this book, I can say that yes !! Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that, and indeed Subhash Chandra Bose was the brightest star of his time who clashed with the British Army to give freedom to India.

He’s an inspiration, and his inspiration was Swami Vivekananda, and that’s why he considered him the “Maker of Modern India”.

Wrapping up, I want to say that always remember,

“Every pain gives a lesson and every lesson changes a person. Without hard work, you cannot succeed to be a successful person”.

      Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam

Thank you !! and always believe in doing good work for you and others, just like our courageous freedom fighters have done for everyone ….. Jai Hind !!!
