It’s a chance for poets, both amateur and professional, to come together and share their love of language and literature.

During World Poetry Month, there are many activities and events dedicated to highlighting great poetry from different countries and cultures.

Today we bring to you the beautiful poem ‘Baby’s Way’ by Rabindranath Tagore. Baby is the Human Soul, which has descended from the Heavens, the realm of serene bliss, to bring joy to this sultry world of many sufferings.

Soul is eternally free and unattached. It has unlimited riches of gold and pearl in its heavenly kingdom.

The soul can any day detach itself from the bodily cage and go back to its joyful kingdom.

But it has chosen to remain in this world, in the lap of Mother Nature, to enact its little mysterious play….

‘Baby’s Way’ by Rabindranath Tagore ▶️

If baby only wanted to, he could fly up to heaven this moment.
It is not for nothing that he does not leave us.
He loves to rest his head on mother’s bosom, and cannot ever
bear to lose sight of her.
Baby know all manner of wise words, though few on earth can
understand their meaning.
It is not for nothing that he never wants to speak.
The one thing he wants is to learn mother’s words from
mother’s lips. That is why he looks so innocent.
Baby had a heap of gold and pearls, yet he came like a beggar
on to this earth. It is not for nothing he came in such a disguise.
This dear little naked mendicant pretends to be utterly
helpless, so that he may beg for mother’s wealth of love.
Baby was so free from every tie in the land of the tiny
crescent moon.
It was not for nothing he gave up his freedom.
He knows that there is room for endless joy in mother’s little
corner of a heart, and it is sweeter far than liberty to be caught
and pressed in her dear arms.
Baby never knew how to cry. He dwelt in the land of perfect
It is not for nothing he has chosen to shed tears.
Though with the smile of his dear face he draws mother’s
yearning heart to him, yet his little cries over tiny troubles
weave the double bond of pity and love.

Crimson red was the evening sky
With golden yellow and purple colour side by side
    So vibrant was the sky
That whole of the universe was reflected by and by
Soothing breeze was blowing slowly and slowly
The trees dancing with each other
Flock of birds returning back to their destination
Were singing the song of brave warriors
    The reflection of setting sun
Was radiating the nearby pond and river
Seems tiny lamps floating on the waves
Slowly and slowly the sun was going down
    The rays shirking from everywhere
But the sky was still so bright
More brighter than the sparking glass
Its shadow in the river seems to be divine aura
Coming from the middle of the river
Now the shadows started to spread its empire
    Getting dark everywhere
The stars in the sky started to peep from inside
Seeming as if painter had painted the sky.
