13 Snake Myths Debunked: Debunking Common Myths Surrounding Snakes!

Fact 7: Snakes Are Not Blind

Contrary to popular belief, snakes can see just fine. They have eyelids, just like humans, but they do not blink.

Instead, they have a transparent scale that covers their eye and protects it when they are hunting or burrowing.

Unlike other animals, snakes cannot see in great detail. For survival, they use other senses, such as smell and vibrations on the ground, in addition to their vision, like eagles and hawks.

In order to get a sense of their surroundings, snakes stick out their tongues all the time because of their poor eyesight. However, the creatures may be able to improve their vision in a pinch.

Researchers found that at least one snake i.e coachwhip snake species controls blood flow to its eyes when it feels threatened to ensure it can see clearly.
