Fact 8: Snakes Are Not Slimy
This is presumably the most common myth about snakes. Snakes secrete a glycoprotein-based lubricant from their ventral scent glands to help them move more easily through their environment, but this substance is not slimy.
In fact, it’s quite dry. The skin of amphibians is covered in mucous. Because of this, the hides of most frogs and toads are wet and slippery.
In spite of the fact that snakes are reptiles, they do not behave in any such way. When held, they feel like smooth sand running through your fingers because they are covered with dry scales.
