Ganpati Bappa Moriya Pudhchya Varshi Lavkar yaa
Ganpati, my Lord, return to us soon next year.
Why Do We Say Morya after Ganapati Bappa?
Many living in Maharashtra, too, may not know!
In the story “Ganapati Bappa Morya”, there is a significance to the word MORYA!
The praises of Lord Ganesh are chanted constantly by devotees through Ganapati Bappa Morya. Are we all aware of what Morya means?
It refers to Lord Ganesh’s devotee Morya Gosavi, who lived in Shaligram in Karnataka during the fourteenth century where his devotion was considered madness!!
After traveling and settling in Chinchvad, near Pune, he invoked the Lord with severe penance.
Shree Chintamani was the place where he attained siddhi (special powers and blessings), and his son built the temple as a memorial to the event.
Besides performing penances at Siddhi Vinayak, Moryaji also constructed the temples at Moreshwar/Mayureshwar at Moregoan and performed penances there.
As a result of Moryaji’s devotion, Lord Ganesha granted him any wish he had. As the ‘Param Bhakt’ of his Lord, Morya asked that he be remembered forever on this earth whenever anyone remembers his Lord.
In this way, God and his devotee have an inseparable relationship.” Always keep this in mind when you say “Ganapati Bappa Morya”.
